Our mission is to empower all Breast Cancer Survivors to strengthen their mind, body, and spirit through camaraderie and the sport of Dragon Boat Paddling.
We want to provide a place where Breast Cancer Survivors, of all ages and physical abilities, can gather to share their experience and improve their overall sense of well-being. We do this through physical activity, communication, support, friendship, and giving back to our community. We are a non-profit organization and 100% of all donations are used solely for the activities, education, and needs of Breast Cancer Survivors. We’re here to give back to the Pittsburgh community and share our personal experiences and knowledge about Breast Cancer and Survivorship.
Survivorship begins at diagnosis, continues through treatment (including those on lifetime treatment), and beyond. With advancements in medicine and targeted therapies, survivors are living longer. Maintaining a good quality of life through physical activity and mindfulness is important to all survivors. *Â After a diagnosis of Breast Cancer, survivors strive to find their new “normal.” Life has changed for themselves and their loved ones.
Pittsburgh Hearts of Steel is a support group open to all Breast Cancer Survivors. Although the physical benefits of Dragon Boat Paddling is an important part of our organization, we all find the support, social, and additional activities of the group just as fulfilling. We embrace all members, no matter what activities you choose to participate in and encourage suggestions from all members.
Pittsburgh Hearts of Steel is hosted by the Three Rivers Rowing Association (TRRA), EIN 25-1544798, which is classified as a public charity and is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, so donations to Hearts of Steel are deductible under section 170 of the Code.
